G’day, I’m Charles.
I am an economist working on climate, energy, and infrastructure. I am based in London, where I work as an Associate Director in the economics team at WSP.
My work focuses on the commercial and policy edge of the energy transition: carbon markets, REDD+ and biodiversity credits, climate adaptation finance, and the cost-benefit appraisal of low-carbon infrastructure. Typical clients include the UK Government (DESNZ, DEFRA), the European Commission (DG ENV, DG CLIMA), development banks, and ASX-listed corporates.
Before WSP I was a Director in the Advisory and Investments team at Tenant Advisory (formerly Sayers) in Melbourne, where I was the first hire into the infrastructure and economics team. Prior to that I was in the Economics and Policy team at PwC Strategy&. I studied Economics and Science at the University of Queensland, with exchange semesters at the London School of Economics and Tel Aviv University.
Outside of client work I build R packages for applied economics, most of which live on CRAN. I also write occasionally at charlescoverdale.com on topics in economics, policy, and the climate transition.
